Chelsea’s New Manager

No, not the football team! Of course we are talking about the Chelsea Flower Show! This year truly is flying by; already we are in March, and that means we are only a couple of months away before the RHS’s flagship show comes to the prestigious area of West London. But who’s the new Show Manager, you may ask? Well, thanks to an article in the February 2015 edition of Pro Landscaper (a truly great read – you can grab the March edition on their website), it is confirmed to us that Tom Harfleet has been appointed.

We can imagine he has congratulations cards, Tweets and other gestures coming our of his ears by this point! But let us be the latest to say well done Tom! Despite his young-looking photograph, he has a lot of experience in horticulture. What we like most about this appointment is that he started from the bottom, but with hard work and determination he has got to the upper echelons of his field, and deservedly so.

He started working in garden centres, before cementing himself as a professional landscaper. His association with the Show itself started from a young age, having “been a visitor to the RHS Chelsea Flower Show since [his] early teens.” He went to exhibit at four Shows. In addition, not only has he been present, his creativity has won him awards, including the RHS Gold medals at both Chelsea, as well as the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show. Very impressive! Therefore, no one can doubt his abilities.

Harfleet went on to say: “I’m thrilled to be joining the RHS and becoming custodian of such a fantastic event. In my eyes, Chelsea has always been the pinnacle of gardening so its an incredible honour to become show manager”. Here at Oakleigh Manor, we cannot wait for it! No doubt we will be keeping a close eye on this year’s event, as always. Roll on May 19th!
