Oak Framed Car Barn – Thanet, Kent

Project 61 of 68

Project type: Oak Framed Car Barn & Office

Date completed: 2012

Location: Broadstairs, East Kent

Design brief:

Our clients required a new double bay car barn to replace their existing garage which would become an internal room, create a beautiful front garden scheme, maximizing driveway space and maneuverability, create security and privacy from the public roadway and soften the scenery with a low maintenance planting scheme.

Project Notes:

The project duration ran for 4 months, during week one we dismantled the existing garage and the junction to the house, then excavated the 1m deep foundations for the car barn. We discovered the gas and foul drain services approximately 70cm deep which complicated the groundwork, once we overcome this the concrete was soon poured.

Soon the building frame was erected by our carpenters whilst the hard-landscape team installed the boundary walling, piers, balmouth and driveway base layers.

The Iron entrance gates were fitted with a new automation and communication system, a stunning lighting system illuminates the garden during the evenings and creates safe access for its users in the dark.

The garden was planted with a low maintenance scheme to balance the hard-landscape elevations and horizontal planes, an irrigation system automatically waters the area from the rear garden’s harvested water supply.

We fitted a bespoke postbox into the boundary wall to enable the postman to do his job once the boundary security was achieved and introduced a green oak log store and bicycle shelter at the rear of the car barn.
