Grounds Maintenance Health & Safety

Throughout Kent, Surrey, Essex & London

It is the policy of Oakleigh Manor Horticultural Services to comply with the terms of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, to provide a safe working environment. We endeavour to ensure all employees are safe and educated in our Health and Safety procedures.

Training

Oakleigh Manor Horticultural Services provides all of its employees with a certain level of training before going out on site, as well as training to adhere to legal requirements. This includes, but is not limited to, trailer training test to enable safe logistics to and from site, PA1 and PA6aw pesticide spraying course to ensure chemicals are being used correctly and follow strict Environmental Guidelines.
Oakleigh Manor also operates an internal training matrix. All employees are given basic training through tool box talks and more Specialised Training in their field of knowledge. Training refreshments are given every three months to all staff members. It is company policy for all staff members to approach their individual line management should they require further training.

Personal Protective Equipment

All employees have an individual Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) bag which contains their own personal kit, including eye goggles, ear defenders, hi-visibility jackets and gloves.
Our employees also have access to more specialist PPE when required, to suit the tasks they are undertaking.

All PPE is checked on a regular basis to ensure it fit for purpose.

Site Health & Safety

Before our teams start any work on site, the Lead Horticulturalist will complete a Dynamic Risk Assessment. This daily assessment ensure’s no new risks are present since the initial Risk Assessment and Method Statements were produced.
If any new risks are realised, which can be classed as ‘high risk’ to the Public or our staff, no employees are allowed to begin work.
All injuries and near misses must be reported to the Office Manager, for monitoring and revision of the Health and Safety policy, if necessary.

Machinery & Equipment

Oakleigh Manor Horticultural Services strive to have the latest, more efficient machinery and equipment. All equipment and machinery is:

  • Inspected visually before use
  • Cleaned & maintained on a regular basis
  • Serviced twice per year
  • Carefully thought of when purchased, to include elements such as vibration levels.

If you would like to arrange an initial 1-hour, free of charge meeting with one of our Head Gardeners, then please contact our friendly office team. Within this meeting we can provide an initial health and condition check of the grounds, and discuss your requirements in more detail.

Once the meeting is complete, we will process fixed fee proposals for any contracted or one off works requested, and draw up an on going ground care proposal for you to consider.
