Your lawn may simply suffer from a poorly aerated topsoil layer which makes your lawn to remain wet or damp for long periods, especially during the wetter seasons.
Within this process we will spike or drill your lawn with small 10cm diameter holes, approximately 15-20cm deep, at pre-determined spacings to open the soil layer to the air, enabling a flow of air into the topsoil layer which will create a natural drying process.
This solution is effective for damp/wet or over compacted soils, it may need to be repeated a few times a year, and can be carried out without removing your existing lawn.
Within this process, we will either spike or drill your lawn, typically with 4-5cm diameter holes, approximately 20-30cm deep, at pre-determined spacings to open the soil layer to the air, enabling a flow of air into the topsoil layer which will create a natural drying process. The hole is then filled with coarse sand, which effectively maintains a 4-5cm diameter cylinder of breathable sand which will not close back up, creating a more long term solution to wet lawn problems.
This solution is effective for damp/wet or over compacted soils, its sand filled cores create a permanent and long term solution and do not need to be repeated for several years. The process can be carried out without removing your existing lawn.
Within this process, we drill your lawn, typically with 20cm diameter holes, approximately 80cm deep, at pre-determined spacings to open the soil layer to the air, enabling a flow of air into the topsoil layer which will create a natural drying process. The hole is then filled with Porous Type 3 media, capped with a sand based topsoil cap under your grass, which effectively maintains a 20cm diameter cylinder of porous material which will not close back up, creating a passage for water to pass through the topsoil and subsoil layers to a depth of 80cm, enabling water passage to the lower subsoil structure. This creates a more long term solution to more serious wet lawn problems. The process can be carried out without removing your existing lawn.
This solution is for more serious lawn drainage problems. Your existing lawn and a 20cm deep topsoil layer would be removed, then a 20cm deep porous media layer is installed inbetween 2 semi permeable geotextile membranes, creating a 20cm deep soakaway layer for water to pass through under your entire lawn.
Your topsoil would then be replaced, conditioned to create a well aerated and porous topsoil medium, then your lawn can be either re-turfed of re-seeded to create your new grass.
This solution is for more serious lawn drainage problems.
If it is pheasible to keep your existing lawn, we will install a pre-designed series of trenches, spaced at pre-determined intervals, where we will locate a perforated pipe system, each pipe is wrapped with a geotextile membrane surrounded by gravel within each trench, which is filled to within 20cm of the lawn surface.
Your topsoil would then be replaced, conditioned to create a well aerated and porous topsoil medium, then your lawn can be either re-turfed of re-seeded to create your new grass.
Your topsoil would then be replaced, conditioned to create a well aerated and porous topsoil medium, then your lawn can be either re-turfed of re-seeded to create your new grass.
This solution may be used in conjunction with an Under-lawn porous media layer.
This system will require a water outlet point within your garden, which will be created by either a large soakaway or a suitable stormwater drainage outlet.
If a soakaway or suitable stormwater drainage outlet is not a suitable solution, then a Pumped Drainage Capture Chamber will be required – see below.
If your subsoil structure is very non-porous or you have a high water table within your garden with no suitable stormwater drainage outlet, it may be necessary to install a Pumped Drainage Capture Chamber.
This is effectively a small water collection chamber receives water from your drainage system, then a Float operated pump system detects water in the chamber and pumps the water out to a suitable outlet point.

1. When a soakaway will not work?
A soakaway will not work on Clay or other non-porous soils in extreme wet conditions.
2. When a soakaway will work?
3. Why would i require a Pumped Drainage Capture Chamber?
A pumped system is normally required when:
