Which Driveway Material Is Right for You?

The driveway is the first thing to welcome you home and the last to see you when leaving. This kind of exposure alone should be enough reason to make it as presentable as possible. The attractiveness of your property also depends a lot on the driveway, so why not start doing something about it?

We’ve listed four of the most used paving materials in the UK, which may help you decide:

Gravel

This type of driveway is the most affordable, but is not ideal for properties that always experience snow. It can last up to 10 years or even a lifetime with proper maintenance. These include weed control, refilling surface gravel, and keeping the crushed rocks out of your greenery and garage. The good thing about gravel is you can achieve a warm or neutral exterior for your property easily.

Paver

As one of the most sophisticated driveway types, you can choose from different designs and still maintain the consistency of each paver. For instance, you can choose either a single colour scheme or a patterned driveway that goes with the exterior paint of your house. Installation is more expensive than gravel, but it needs lower maintenance and can last up to 40 years.

Concrete

This durable, low-maintenance material will give your home a traditional look. If you want something flat and solid for the driveway, then this is a more affordable choice. Designing is possible through stamping and colouring, which can imitate the look of a paver, brick, or natural stone.

Asphalt

This paving material is made of stone aggregates, water and bitumen. While it comes usually in a single colour (black), many homeowners appreciate its simplicity. In fact, the colour makes it easy to hide cracks and other imperfections. In addition, choosing asphalt is like going green because it’s a recyclable material. It also needs less maintenance than concrete.
