Art Deco Inspired Garden Design
Oakleigh Manor Designed & Built this striking garden in Canterbury in 2023
The brief for this garden was to create a contemporary art-deco-style garden to unify with the new-build property, using mainly hard surfaces and sharp lines, with little-no timber or lawn in the garden. Space was limited in the existing garden with a large steep slope up to the fence to tackle in the design, so it was important to make good use of the space whilst keeping within a reasonable budget.
The patio uses naturally riven sandstone plank paving, broken up with strips of Kentish ragstone gravel and pocket-planted for subtle pops of colour. We retained the sloping garden with a rendered wall with a sandstone capping, with a beautiful linear planting scheme behind the wall, creating a beautiful picture to be viewed from the inside out. Plants within the scheme include Calamagrostis acutiflora, Stipa tenuissima, Lavendula agustiflora ‘mustead’, Hydrangea arborescens ‘annabelle’, Skimmia japonica, Sedum carl and Lolly pop trees.
