Beautiful Family Garden in Whitstable
Completed in Summer 2025, this stunning garden transformation was designed to create an inviting outdoor living space where family and friends can gather, relax and entertain throughout the seasons. The brief called for a contemporary garden with subtle Mediterranean influences, carefully balanced to complement the character and heritage of the period Oast House.
The design centres around a series of interconnected outdoor spaces, encouraging movement and exploration through the garden. Generous seating and dining terraces, crafted from elegant sawn sandstone paving and herringbone clay pavers, provide a range of areas for entertaining, from intimate family meals to larger social gatherings.
A sunken garden forms a key focal point within the scheme, accessed via bullnosed sandstone steps and framed with reclaimed-style farmhouse bricks that help bridge the gap between contemporary design and the traditional architecture of the property. Throughout the garden, carefully considered lighting and a fully integrated irrigation system ensure the spaces remain functional, beautiful and easy to maintain year-round.
The planting scheme combines bold prairie-style drifts with pockets of Mediterranean-inspired species, creating a relaxed yet sophisticated atmosphere. Layers of texture, movement and seasonal interest soften the strong architectural lines of the hard landscaping, while a carefully curated palette of ornamental grasses, perennials and structural shrubs provides year-round appeal.
At the heart of the garden sits a new swimming pool, complete with a child-safe automatic cover, creating a luxurious destination for both recreation and relaxation. Complementing the pool is a beautifully crafted oak-framed pool house and games room, providing the perfect setting for entertaining and extending the enjoyment of the garden long into the evening.
The result is a timeless outdoor space that feels both contemporary and completely at home within its surroundings, seamlessly blending architecture, planting and lifestyle to create a garden that will be enjoyed for generations to come.
