Garden of Water & Light
This natural landscape inspired garden is a clear demonstration of how crisp contemporary lines combine with natural rustic forms to create a beautiful harmonious space.
The rustic textured limestone rocks emerge from smooth poured concrete and limestone paved terrace. The paving slabs and concrete terraces are broken up by dark grey setts. The large rocks lead you to a sunken hot tub, cased in dark coloured composite decking, emulating the bubbling hot springs of the Nordic landscape. The surrounding walls are faced with a light and dark grey composite cladding, feeding into a dark grey split stone clad wall, housing a blade water feature.
The water blade cascades down into a rill, which cuts its way through the limestone, much like the spill water from a glacier, then cascading down the steps to a sunken garden and eventually disappearing underground just like a swallow hole in the natural landscape.
The Western Red Cedar pergola gives definition and height to the space whilst the black timber uprights divide the outdoor kitchen from the rest of the garden, adding rhythm, repetition, and patterns, with a hint of hide and reveal.
The subtle greens, silvers, purple and whites of the bright white stem Silver birch (Betula utilis ‘Jaquemontii’), Lavenders and Hebe’s combine to flow seamlessly through the hard landscaped surfaces adding a wholesome softness to the space.
