Our client requested a contemporary low maintenance garden that connected the garden to the internal part of their home, so whenever possible they can open their garden room doors and extend their living area into the garden, dine, relax and entertain. The terraces: using one of the main assets of house, the garden room, we created two seating areas, a large sandstone dining terrace which is enclosed by an aluminium pergola structure coloured in the same style as the garden room, then a secondary sunken garden to provide a secluded spot to relax away from the chilly breeze.

Cream coloured sawn sandstone: has been laid to match the flooring of the sun room and extend the space to the external garden terrace, creating a sharp and vibrant surface. Resin Bound Gravel: colour Serpia Quartz has been laid in the in the sunken garden to create a free-draining surface allowing all the rainwater to pass through into the permeable sub-bases that have been created in the sunken areas. Planting scheme around the terraces: Both terraces have been planted with aromatic planting to provide pleasant aroma’s whilst in the spaces, together with beautiful foliage and flowering displays from spring bulbs, early and late summer perennials and varying foliage displays of colour and structure.

Garden Lighting The garden has also been fitted with a lighting system, creating warm pools of downlight onto the main dining terrace from lights fitted onto the pergola structure, lourved recessed lights have been installed into the sunken garden walling to gently illuminate the surfaces within this area. The planting scheme is brought to life at darkness by discreet halogen uplighters, creating pools of uplight and interesting shadows around the planted perimeters of the garden.
