Contemporary Garden Design in Essex

Contemporary Garden Design Specialists

Gardens are truly special. And with this in mind, we think it’s important your garden is designed and developed to your exact needs, and also in line with modern trends. And what’s more trendy and modern than a contemporary-style garden?

These have become the garden style of choice for people right across the country. Whether you’re a young couple moving into a new home, an established family or someone looking to retire, a low-maintenance, slick contemporary garden could be just the thing for you.

And if you live in Essex or the surrounding areas, you’re in luck. Here at Oakleigh Manor, we’ve been working in your locality for a long time, and we’d love to help design your dream garden.

How We Operate

We’ve already said that we’ve been working in the garden industry for a long time. Over that time, we’ve worked to make our processes as effective and efficient as possible. Here are the various steps involved in working with us:

  • The first step, of course, is for you to get in touch with us. Once you’ve done that, we’ll look to come and visit your home to arrange a site meeting. This usually takes around an hour and will involve one of our design team spending time with you to offer advice and better understand all your garden needs.
  • Then, with all of the above knowledge in mind, we’ll put together a quote for you – this will come with absolutely no obligation and we will be upfront about the cost. There will be no hidden fees involved, at all.
  • We’ll break the quote down into different parts and provide useful information with it, too. We’ll outline the cost of the design, any surveys you may need, and then give you a price for the actual garden installation.
  • We are also able to provide guidance for projects that need planning permission from your local council, too.

Our Other Services

We are proud to say that we do lots more than just designing gardens, we install them too, and everything that comes with it! Whether you’re looking for a swimming pool, artificial grass, new lighting or a new driveway, we can help.

Creating your Dream Contemporary Garden

Crisp, sharp lines

A key feature of a contemporary garden is the use of crisp and clean lines and shapes which can be created with the use of hard materials, such as stone, paving and decking. This creates a flawless finish that is pleasing to the eye.

Natural Materials & Neutral Tones

The use of natural materials is very important in a contemporary-style garden. You will often see muted tones, such as greys, whites and creams, creating an air of simplicity yet enhancing the flawless finish to the garden.

Popular choices of material include:

  • Porcelain paving
  • Composite decking
  • Slate
  • Corten steel
  • Timber
  • Oak
  • Western red cedar

Low Maintenance Planting Schemes

In a contemporary garden, plants are often contained within beds and neatly manicured. You will often see trimmed box hedges and small pockets of plants surrounding patio/decking areas. Although plants are often a subtle addition in a contemporary garden, the planting is a great way to soften areas of hard materials.

Water Features

A water feature is a great addition to a contemporary garden, adding other sensory ingredients to the space with the movement of the water.

Lighting Scheme

Lighting in a contemporary garden is key to creating a functional space that can be enjoyed day to night. Illuminating different areas can help to define the lines and shapes and highlight key features in the garden. A great addition to give your garden the wow-factor.

Contemporary Garden Structures

Including a garden structure such as a pergola or gazebo can add another dimension to your contemporary garden. Not only that, but the use of natural wood such as Oak or Cedar can help tie everything in together and compliment the neutral tones.
